How Men Make the Rules but Women Pay the Price

By Jeff Cooper

There’s a deep hypocrisy at the center of human history—one that has existed for thousands of years, shaping laws, societies, and cultures.

Men make the rules.
Men enforce the rules.
Men break the rules.

And yet, when it comes to the consequences of those rules, it’s women who pay the price.

Nowhere is this clearer than in the war on women’s reproductive rights.

When Roe v. Wade was overturned, the U.S. government and conservative leaders rushed to punish women—but where were the laws holding men responsible?

A woman can now be jailed for getting an abortion.
A doctor can be imprisoned for providing care.
Some states are even trying to charge women with homicide for miscarriages.

But what happens to the man who got her pregnant?

Nothing.

Men can sleep with hundreds of women.
Men can create dozens—maybe even hundreds—of babies.
Men can abandon those children and their mothers without facing any legal consequence.

And society lets them get away with it.

This isn’t just a flaw in the system. This is by design.

The laws were written by men, for men. And they’ve been doing it for centuries.

A Brief History of How Men Have Controlled Women While Protecting Themselves

The idea that women should be punished while men remain untouched is not new.

It has been built into almost every civilization in history.

1. The Ancient World: Women as Property, Not People

✔ In ancient Rome and Greece, women were seen as the property of their fathers or husbands.
✔ In many cultures, adultery laws only punished women—never the men who slept with them.
✔ In the Bible, a woman caught in adultery could be stoned to death—but the man? Nothing.

The message was clear: women’s bodies belonged to men, and men had no responsibility for the consequences of their actions.

2. The Witch Hunts: Women as the Root of Sin

✔ During the witch trials of Europe and Salem, thousands of women were executed based on rumors and accusations.
✔ Many were accused simply because they were too independent, too outspoken, or too different.
✔ The men who made these accusations? Untouched and unquestioned.

Whenever men felt threatened by powerful women, they labeled them as evil.
And they still do it today.

3. The Suffrage Movement: The Fight to Be Seen as Human

✔ Women weren’t allowed to vote because men feared they would demand too much change.
✔ Women who protested were arrested, beaten, and force-fed in prison.
✔ Men controlled the laws, and they refused to give women a voice.

It took generations of women risking everything just to gain the right to participate in democracy.

Meanwhile, men never had to fight for the right to be heard.

4. Modern Times: The Legal System Still Protects Men Over Women

Child support laws are weak and rarely enforced.
There is no law requiring men to take responsibility for unplanned pregnancies.
Rape laws still require women to “prove” they were violated.
Men in power still make laws about women’s bodies—with no consequences for themselves.

Women are still fighting for basic protections—while men continue to avoid responsibility for the same actions.

And now, with the fall of Roe v. Wade, the pattern has resurfaced.

Why Are Women the Ones Being Punished for Pregnancy?

Let’s be clear:

A woman does not get pregnant alone.
A man is equally responsible for every pregnancy.
Yet, only women face legal consequences for unwanted pregnancies.

If abortion is criminalized, why aren’t the men who get women pregnant held legally responsible?

Why aren’t there laws mandating financial support from the moment of conception?
Why aren’t men charged with a crime for causing an unwanted pregnancy?
Why aren’t men required to undergo vasectomies if they refuse to take responsibility for their children?

Because this was never about life.

This is about control.

The Truth: Women Are the Backbone of Civilization

Men may write the laws, but women stabilize the world.

Women give birth to every human being on Earth.
Women raise children, care for families, and hold communities together.
Women lead revolutions, fight injustice, and change societies.

And for that, they are punished, controlled, and restricted.

The fact is, you can’t even enter this Earth without coming through a woman.

Yet, men continue to use, exploit, and control women’s bodies while taking no responsibility.

What Needs to Change?

If the world actually valued women, we would see:

Laws holding men equally responsible for pregnancy.
Equal pay and economic security for mothers.
Stronger protections against gender-based violence.
A cultural shift where men are expected to be fathers—not just sperm donors.

But the truth is, men will never write laws that hold themselves accountable.

That change has to come from women standing up, speaking out, and demanding what they deserve.

Because history has shown again and again that the power of women cannot be ignored forever.

Final Thought: The Time for Hypocrisy is Over

Women have always been told what they can and can’t do.
They’ve been punished for the actions of men.
They’ve been blamed, shamed, and controlled.

But enough is enough.

It’s time to call out the hypocrisy.
It’s time to demand responsibility from men.
It’s time to stop punishing women for bringing life into the world—while letting men walk away without consequence.

Because the true power isn’t in the laws written by men.

It’s in the women who refuse to be silenced any longer.
