America always needs a boogeyman.

For decades, politicians have used fear to control the masses. They find a group—small, vulnerable, and misunderstood—and convince the public that this group is the reason everything is going wrong.

In the 1960s, it was Black people demanding civil rights.
In the 2000s, it was Muslims after 9/11.
In 2016, it was immigrants “invading” the border.
Now, in 2024, it’s trans people.

A group that makes up less than 1% of the population has somehow been framed as the biggest threat to America.

How?

Fear-mongering. Misinformation. Manufactured outrage.

It’s not about trans people. It’s about power. And the question we should be asking is:

Who’s next?

The Politics of Manufactured Fear

When a leader like Trump needs a new enemy, the formula is simple:

✔ Find a group that’s already misunderstood.
✔ Spread exaggerated, misleading, or outright false information about them.
✔ Convince the public that this group is a threat to their children, their safety, and their way of life.
✔ Pass extreme laws to restrict their rights, access to healthcare, and basic freedoms.
✔ Distract people from the real issues—poverty, corruption, corporate greed—by giving them someone to blame.

It’s political theater.

And it works—because fear always spreads faster than truth.

What’s Actually Happening?

Trans people aren’t harming children.
Trans people aren’t destroying America.
Trans people aren’t taking over society.

But real harm is being done:

✖ Trans kids are being denied healthcare and mental health support.
✖ Families with trans children are being investigated for child abuse—simply for supporting their kids.
✖ Trans adults are being forced out of public life, losing jobs, housing, and even their safety.

And the worst part?

✔ Most of the people pushing these anti-trans laws don’t actually care about the issue.
✔ It’s just another tool to stir up outrage and distract from real problems.

The Bigger Question: Who’s Next?

This isn’t just about trans people.

This is about a pattern—one we’ve seen before.

✔ If we allow trans people to be demonized, what stops politicians from choosing another “enemy” next?
✔ If we justify denying healthcare and basic rights to one group, who’s next?
✔ If we let politicians weaponize fear and division, what will America look like in 10 years?

Every time America refuses to protect the least of these, it creates a precedent for more oppression.

You Don’t Have to Understand to Show Compassion

I’m not trans. Many people reading this aren’t trans.

But you don’t have to fully understand someone’s experience to believe they deserve to live in peace.

✔ You don’t have to be an immigrant to know they deserve dignity.
✔ You don’t have to be Muslim to know they deserve religious freedom.
✔ You don’t have to be Black to know they deserve equal rights.

And you don’t have to be trans to recognize that what’s happening right now is wrong.

If we don’t stop this pattern now, it will continue.

The question is:

When will America finally stop looking for new enemies?
