For centuries, the story of human civilization has been written in conquest, destruction, and the erasure of entire peoples.<\/strong><\/p>\n We like to think that colonization is over.<\/strong> That the days of empire-building, land-stealing, and racial supremacy are behind us. That the world has settled into its borders, and the great powers are content with what they own.<\/p>\n But then Trump openly suggested taking over Greenland<\/strong>\u2014a land belonging to the Inuit and the Danish. The truth is, colonization never really ended.<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ It changed its methods.<\/strong> But the mindset behind it\u2014the belief that powerful nations have the right to take what they want, control who they want, and erase who they want\u2014never disappeared.<\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s the same story, just with new characters.<\/strong><\/p>\n Throughout history, powerful groups have invaded, conquered, and reshaped entire civilizations.<\/strong> ✔ Take the land.<\/strong> Here are just a few examples of colonization\u2019s long, bloody history\u2014some of which continue to this day.<\/strong><\/p>\n Many people today don\u2019t realize that North Africa was once entirely African.<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ Before Islam and the Arab Empire, North Africa was home to indigenous Berber and Black African civilizations.<\/strong> Colonization isn\u2019t just about taking land\u2014it\u2019s about erasing identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n And in North Africa, that erasure is still ongoing.<\/p>\n By the late 1800s, Europe had run out of land to conquer in its own region.<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, and Portugal<\/strong> met in the Berlin Conference of 1884<\/strong> to divide up Africa\u2014without a single African in the room.<\/strong> Africa was colonized because of greed<\/strong>\u2014and when the colonizers left, they made sure the continent remained divided and weakened.<\/strong><\/p>\n The colonization of the Americas by Spain, Britain, France, and Portugal<\/strong> led to one of the largest genocides in human history.<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ Indigenous populations in North and South America were reduced by 90%<\/strong> due to war, disease, and forced labor. Colonization didn\u2019t just take lives\u2014it took futures.<\/strong><\/p>\n And America still refuses to reckon with this past.<\/p>\n When we think of colonization, we often think of land. ✔ The Nazi ideology was based on Lebensraum<\/strong>\u2014the belief that Germans had the right to expand and take over land from \u201clesser races.\u201d We said never again.<\/strong><\/p>\n But just decades later, history is repeating itself.<\/p>\n It is one of the most tragic ironies of history<\/strong>\u2014a people who survived a genocide are now leading a brutal occupation and displacement of another people.<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ In 1948, Israel was created, displacing 750,000 Palestinians.<\/strong> The world watches the systematic elimination of a people<\/strong>\u2014and history repeats itself once again.<\/p>\n What has happened to Palestinians is colonization in real-time<\/strong>\u2014and the world refuses to call it what it is.<\/p>\n America calls itself the land of the free<\/strong>, but its global influence has often looked like modern colonization.<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ Regime Change Wars<\/strong> \u2013 The U.S. has overthrown dozens of governments in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa to install leaders who serve American interests.<\/strong> It\u2019s not called colonization anymore\u2014it\u2019s called \u201cnational security.\u201d<\/strong> This is the real question: Is colonization just part of human nature?<\/strong><\/p>\n ✔ Are we that power-hungry?<\/strong> Or is it possible to break the cycle<\/strong> and recognize that no one has the right to erase another people?<\/p>\n Because if we don\u2019t, history will keep repeating.<\/strong><\/p>\n We like to think colonization ended with independence movements and new borders.<\/p>\n But history shows us that colonization never really stops\u2014it just finds new names, new methods, and new justifications.<\/strong><\/p>\n The real question is:<\/p>\n ✔ When will humanity finally reject the belief that some people have the right to rule over others?<\/strong> Because as long as greed and conquest<\/strong> remain part of our world, colonization is never truly over.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Have We Really Moved On? And then there was talk of absorbing Canada<\/strong>\u2014as if nations could still be bought and sold.<\/p>\n
✔ It changed its language.<\/strong>
✔ It found new justifications.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\nColonization Never Stopped\u2014It Just Evolved<\/strong><\/h2>\n
Each time, the justifications were different, but the outcome was always the same:<\/p>\n
✔ Control the people.<\/strong>
✔ Erase the culture.<\/strong>
✔ Rewrite history to justify it.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n1. The Arab Conquest of North Africa (7th Century\u2013Today)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
✔ When the Arabs expanded from the Middle East, they conquered Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, and Morocco<\/strong>\u2014forcing Islamic rule, Arabic language, and cultural assimilation.
✔ Today, many indigenous North Africans face racism and discrimination in their own ancestral lands.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n2. The European Scramble for Africa (1880s\u20131900s)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
✔ They didn\u2019t care about existing African civilizations, nations, or cultures. They simply drew lines on a map and took whatever they wanted.<\/strong>
✔ Millions of Africans were enslaved, killed, or displaced, and the effects are still felt today in the form of artificial borders, resource theft, and political instability.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n3. The Indigenous Genocide in the Americas (1400s\u2013Present)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
✔ Native children were stolen from their families and forced into boarding schools<\/strong>, where they were beaten for speaking their language.
✔ Even today, Indigenous people face systemic erasure<\/strong>, from missing and murdered Native women to the continued exploitation of their land.<\/p>\n
\n4. The Holocaust (1930s\u20131940s) \u2013 Hitler\u2019s Attempt at Colonization Through Genocide<\/strong><\/h3>\n
But Hitler\u2019s colonization project was about extermination.<\/strong><\/p>\n
✔ This led to the systematic extermination of 6 million Jews<\/strong> and millions of others, including Romani people, disabled individuals, and political dissidents.
✔ The Holocaust was a brutal reminder that when one group believes it has the right to rule over another, genocide is never far behind.<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n5. The Israeli Occupation of Palestine (1948\u2013Present)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
✔ Today, Palestinian land continues to be taken<\/strong>, and those who resist are labeled terrorists.
✔ Israeli bombs destroy homes, hospitals, and refugee camps<\/strong>, while global leaders look the other way.<\/p>\n
\n6. America\u2019s Global Imperialism (20th Century\u2013Today)<\/strong><\/h3>\n
✔ Corporate Takeovers<\/strong> \u2013 U.S. companies control vast amounts of land, resources, and industries<\/strong> in developing nations, keeping them in economic dependency.
✔ Military Expansion<\/strong> \u2013 The U.S. has over 750 military bases<\/strong> around the world\u2014more than any empire in history.<\/p>\n
But the effects are the same.<\/p>\n
